Whether you’re looking for adventure playgrounds, interactive experiences, or simply a scenic place to relax, here are some of our favorite family-friendly spots in and around the city.
Dalkeith Country Park & Fort Douglas Adventure Park
Dalkeith Country Park is a fantastic place for families, offering woodland trails, open spaces, and Fort Douglas Adventure Park—one of the best playgrounds in Scotland, with giant slides, rope bridges, and climbing towers that kids absolutely love.
Vogrie Country Park
A hidden gem with plenty of space for kids to run, a fantastic adventure playground, and easy woodland trails. There’s even a small train ride that operates on certain days, making it an exciting spot for young children.
Dean Village
A picturesque and peaceful riverside walk, Dean Village feels like stepping back in time. It’s a great spot for a family stroll, with historic buildings, cobbled streets, and scenic photo opportunities.
East Links Family Park
This adventure-packed farm park is full of activities, including animal feeding, go-karts, trampolines, and a fantastic train ride around the park. It’s a full day of fun for kids of all ages!
Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
A beautiful and educational place to explore, with exotic plants, waterfalls, and even a glasshouse. Kids love running through the expansive gardens, and there are often seasonal activities for families.
Almond Valley Heritage Centre
A mix of a farm, museum, and adventure park, Almond Valley is perfect for hands-on learning and fun. Children can enjoy meeting farm animals, riding on a tractor, and playing in the indoor and outdoor activity areas.
Blair Drummond Safari Park
A little further out from Edinburgh, but well worth the trip! Blair Drummond offers an exciting safari experience where you can see lions, elephants, and rhinos up close. There are also play areas, boat rides, and a petting zoo to keep kids entertained.
