When we lived in Edinburgh, we spent a lot of time exploring its beautiful outdoor spaces. From scenic hills to peaceful reservoirs and stunning beaches, the city and its surroundings offer plenty of opportunities to connect with nature. If you’re looking for outdoor adventures in and around Edinburgh, here are some of our favorite spots.

The Meadows

A beloved green space in the heart of Edinburgh, The Meadows is perfect for picnics, walks, and letting kids run free. With wide open fields, play areas, and a beautiful cherry blossom display in spring, it’s a must-visit.

Portobello Beach

This charming seaside spot is great for a family day out. Whether you’re strolling along the promenade, building sandcastles, or dipping your toes in the water, Portobello Beach offers a refreshing escape from the city.

Blackford Hill

For breathtaking panoramic views of Edinburgh, Blackford Hill is a fantastic choice. The hike up isn’t too strenuous, making it a great option for families. You’ll also find the Royal Observatory here!
